TAH Project: Development of a Topic Specific Folder System to Access Hundreds of Power Media Plus Video Clips

REFLECTIVE ANALYSIS

Power Media Plus

Since the conclusion of United streaming Video Services by BOCES in 2006, many teachers have found the transition to Power Media Plus to be very time consuming. In many cases, teachers throughout the Southern Tier have not acclimated to the new system and lessons are often lacking a necessary and engaging video component. This year, I decided to design an organizational system to make the Power Media United States History videos and video clips more accessible for middle and high school educators and their students-- (elementary teachers will find many appropriate clips but I have not categorized designated K-5 videos). Therefore, I have reviewed the 280+ films in the Power Media U.S. History Library and loaded the individual clips in folders by specific historical topic. The hundreds of clips are now readily available and any teacher or students may access the TAH Playlists by typing TAH in the “Search Box”. .

Instructions:

1. Go to http://www.powermediaplus.com

2. Opening Page: Type in User Name and Password* and Enter

*These are available from your district’s Technology Department, if your district has this BOCES Service*

3. Next Page (Digital Home Page): Under MEDIA LISTS, Click on PLAYLISTS

4. Next Page (Playlists): In the SEARCH FOR PLAYLISTS BOX –Type in Caps—TAH and Search

5. You will find four pages of TAH Historical Topic Folders categorizing hundreds of topic and time appropriate film clips.

6. Select Your Folder, Pick Your Video Clip and Play!! Note the FULL SCREEN option below the video screen.

7. REMEMBER: Teachers AND Student have access to these video clips even from home if provided with the district Username and Password.
